I’ve been working in the computer biz for a long time and I’ve always been interested in science and technology. For example, I was a ham radio operator in high school doing mobile and long distance communications decades before cell phones and reliable trans-oceanic phone calls were available. I was a cabinet maker right out of high school and did that for a dozen years while putting myself through college. I received my BS in math from the University of Washington in 1985. I really wanted to major in something construction related like architecture or mechanical engineering but I couldn’t afford the luxury of going on to get a masters. I had hungry mouths to feed. Regardless, I still have a strong interest in architecture and building. I am especially fascinated by big cranes. It is amazing what they can do and also quite scary what can happen when things don’t go as planned.
